About Kids Kits
Welcome to Kids Kits. We are a family-run business located in the foothills of the Southern Drakensberg. We watched the world of toys become ncreasingly digital and plastic-heavy. In response, we decided to return to basics–combining a deep understanding of how children learn with the technical expertise required to design high-quality, hands-on DIY projects for children.
About US
Richard and Cathy Fry are the owners of Kids Kits. Cathy is the Founding Director of Ukhanyiso Ebantwini NPC, with over 30 years of teaching and training experience in South Africa. She has served as principal of two leading independent junior girls’ schools in Johannesburg and specialises in ECD, primary education, school leadership, and curriculum development.
Cathy has spent many years studying and developing programmes to encourage creative and critical thinking in children. She is an enthusiastic gardener and an ardent educationalist. Richard retired from a successful career as an engineer with over 40 years of engineering and management experience in South Africa. He is a keen bird watcher, nature lover and loves working with wood. They are both devoted to their children and grandchildren. Kids Kits came about because of them.
FIND US AT YOUR LOCAL MARKET
Kids Kits regularly attends local markets and community events throughout KwaZulu-Natal, sharing handcrafted creations with families and visitors across the region.
The team attends the Underberg Country Market on the first Saturday of every month, along with selected events such as the Meander Country Market at Cransbrook Farm in Howick.
Popular products include colourful Sun Catchers, Wind Chimes, Dream Catchers, and the Flying Bearded Vulture display piece.
Recent markets, including PMB Boys College and the Underberg Country Market at Troutbeck Shopping Centre, received a warm response from visitors despite challenging weather conditions.
Kids Kits continues to create imaginative handcrafted products that bring creativity, joy, and colour to homes, gardens, and children’s spaces.
